Faded Trims And Bumpers

Hi Guys. I have a dark blue 1998 Avensis hatchback. it polishes and shines absolutely brilliant. I use back to black on the bumpers and side trims... after a week or so the trims and bumpers revert to a streaky grey colour which destroys the look of the car completely. I wonder if any co-owners have found a way round this to give the trims a long lasting unladed look?

Regards

I use this and it last at least three months per application.

Producing a long lasting and deep glossy black finish.

Generating fantastic results, even when only using a small amount.

Using a specifically designed applicator sponge suitable for any tyre, from sports cars to off-road vehicles.

Using an advanced non-drip formula that doesn't spread to the alloy or bodywork.

Being suitable for vinyl, plastic or rubber tread and bumpers, both inside and outside the vehicle.

Thanks Raistin. Will give that a try as I have had the car for a long time and want to keep it a few years longer.

The product that Raistlin has linked is a tyre dressing, judging by your post you appear to be asking which product will last longer when your exterior trim is treated..

If that is the case i'd be looking at this product myself.

Having just read the link it does however say that it can be used on Vinyl .plastics and bumpers..

what i used, leaves bumpers with a nice matt finish http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/150817108721?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108

but it will leave the streak marks and lines (very light) once it rains as it will wash off which all products will. I used it every other week or so after washing the car.

I have the same grey plastic issue too.

Used Black on Black or similar, every so often after a wash and polish.

My other problem is the damage to the door rubbing strips. The ends on the offside have broken off. I have seen an intact set on a car in the scrapyard.

The problem is how to remove them without damaging them, then sticking them to my car.

Got the trim off the scrap car, they peeled off easily. The hard bit is the prep work stick them on the doors.

And guess what? They are the same matching grey as the trim on the car.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all he advice. really appreciated.

I had occasion to replace all the trims on the car as they were lifting at the ends. I acquired the full set of oem for just over £30. I duly removed the old ones (which curled up on removal)

and half the tape was still stuck to panels. To remove the glue I used white spirit on the glue( really soaked it) and left it to soak till very soft I used a couple of rags to remove the residue. When the lumpy stuff was off I washed the affected area in white spirit and left to dry. The new trims went on easily and have been there a few years now. I suggest if removal from a scrapped vehicle you arm yourself with a paint scraper to ease the trims off (easing them off at various intervals along the top of the trim trying not to bend or pull the trim (doesn't matter if you damage the door). Once off, apply the white spirit on the glue on trim and scrape residue off with scraper. (careful not to get spirit on trim due to white marks being left) Apply strong double sided tape (as thin as you can get ) and fit trims to your car.) Hope this helps. Will investigate and see if new trims still available on e bay and get back to you

I have the replacement trims and am preparing them. Hopefully I will start on the doors by removing the old trim and sticky tape. Considering I only paid £5 for the trim plus the tape.

Now to tackle the windscreen scuttle where the rubber has deteriorated and broken away in places.
