I'm looking to instal a crash cam, but need to find a 12 volt supply that is permanently on. The 12 volt sockets are only live when the ingintion is on, great for phones but no good for a crash cam. Obviously it needs to be towards the front, so any clues where to look?

When I bought my 2012 Prius from Dingles in Norwich, I handed over a RoadHawk camera and the hard wiring kit (which includes a circuit to shut it off the if voltage drops - v important bearing in mind the Prius has a very small 12v battery).

They wired it in for me for around £30 - a neat job, without losing either of the 2 standard 12v sockets.

Regards, PeteB

The guy who fitted my taxi meter and radio had to run a dedicated feed from the 12v in the rear. It was obviously fused etc. The wires are still there with fuse removed for the meter and two way radio but the separate feed for my Tom Tom is still there and working.

I think he said it was the only easy and reliable way to get a 12v constant feed. You'll find even the cigarette lighter sockets switch off when the ignition is off.

There is a permanent 12V feed to the head unit in the 2010 Gen3 Prius.

You can pick it up on the main connector at the back of the unit.

Not sure if it is there on the 2012 Touch and Go unit but could be worth a look.
