2000 Yaris Headlight Lens Removal

Looked around at other threads and although there are a few relating to yaris headlights, none quite give me the info I need.

I bought a 2000 yaris for my daughter. It has NCT (Irish MOT) booked for next week but I have one concern;

I've noticed that there is a little condensation in the head lights. It's not bad but I'm not sure if it's bad enough to fail NCT. The lens is in great condition so would just like to get in and clean it off.

My question is: What is the easiest way to get into the head light to clean the moisture off?

I've attached a picture but it doesn't really capture the condensation as well as I would like.

Moved to the Yaris club (with a link left in General Discussions) so you should receive more responses.

Best thing is to just turn the headlights on for a few hours or have them on whenever you drive. The heat from the bulbs will dry the condensation inside the headlight. If it doesn't come back, its fine (and you will have got through the MOT/NCT with dry lights).

If it does happen to come back then you need to look at the seal between the housing and the lens or the evaporation hole may be blocked.

Sometimes moisture builds up from humidity and lack of heat without having anything physically wrong with the headlight.

I don't think its a cause for concern to the inspector but I don't know. Good luck and let us know how it goes. :)

Thanks a million for the advice. Will give it a go. Have the NCT on Saturday.

  • 5 months later...

I got it a little cleaner.

I took the car for a long drive with the lights on and it seemed to help get rid of a little of the condensation in the headlight.

I also rubbed the outside of the headlight down with toothpaste and a rag. This helped a good bit as well.

Although the headlights are not as clear as I would like the car went through NCT no problem first time.
