Odometer/speedo Dials Broken

ok heres what has happened.

I am there driving along and my needle to show how fast i am going drops all the way to the bottom.

now it starts from the very bottom (by the handbrake light) and the goes up.

So i am travelling at about 10 - 15 mph and its only just going past 0mph.

is there anyway to fix it or do i need a new speedo?

i have already looked under the bonnet and twisted the cable where it reads from and it move the needle so it has to be inside of the car on the acctual dial itself.

i hear there about 60 quid???

would it be best to buy another one or just work out the speed difference and drive about as normal?

Oh and one more thing,

Does the brake fluid level activate the handbrake light on the dash to show its low??

cause mine stayed on and i topped it up today and it has sudenly gone off.
