Avensis Brakes Knocking

hello iv an 08 avensis and it started making loud knocking sound when braking but only when the car almost at full stop only, knocking happens only when firmly applying brakes, including firmly braking when reversing. it happened after i change rear brake caliper, the previous 1 that was on it was lost when i was driving and bolts got loose and the caliper went off the disk and the wee cylinder got lost on the road so i had to get new caliper, i bled the brakes few times and im sure the system is air free. also there is a vibration on the brake pedal when it knocks

Vibration in the brake pedal usually means warped brake discs. Is the vibration more noticeable when going braking downhill?

If so, Id say change brake discs.

Check the caliper is correct also, the pad might not be correctly fitted within the caliper (too much free play) What the hell happened to lose the caliper in the first place? Calipers don't just fall off, has it damaged the carrier at all?

yes the pedal is vibrating only when it starts knocking, the knocking appears ONLY when almost at stop and braking very easily, if i brake heavily there is no knocking at all, it knocks only when slowly braking and coming to full stop from around 10km/h to 0km/h ONLY otherwise its 100%. i believe the 2 bolts that hold the caliper got loose and eventually they dropped and things got bad then. discs and pads r good, it started after i lost the old caliper, before that it was all good. when i put new one in it started doing that, there is no difference uphill or downhill, it brakes good but makes that loud knocking sound when almost at full stop ONLY. very annoying when driving in towns going from traffic lights and braking constantly, there is NO knocking or vibrating when braking very heavily, only light braking at almost full stop feels like the pedal is getting kicked by something

seems like its an ABS knocking the brake pedal for no reason whatsoever

i noticed my handbrake barely holds the car but i took both rear discs off to check handbrake pads and they r still good. when i put them back on the vibration almost gone but still sometimes it knocks the pedal for few seconds when braking and then goes away, but it happens much less than before, after i took off rear calipers and discs and put back on again, still makes no sense at all why the hanbrake suddenly stopped working even tho cables and pads like new

Make use of the free brake test at kwik Fit. They will tell you what's wrong and you can fix it yourself from there. You can book your car for the free brake test online, at a time that suits you.

Hi could you please contact me with help for your old problem with the Sat Nav ? Do you need to put three DVDs in head unit at same time to get it to boot up ?
