Front Door Metal Cracked On Avensis

Having seen an article in a magazine regarding the cracks metal on the front door , I looked at my car . It was the same , when the front doors are open you can see and feel cracks in the metal above and below the bolts that hold the door restrainer arm onto door . On the article in Autoexpress , they had approached Toyota for the owner , but because the car was a 150,000 mile car and used as a taxi , would not fix it , even though it was only 4 years old . My car has done 55,000 , and is the same age , I haven't been to the dealer yet , but has anyone else had the same thing , as it seems like a common fault

I've worked for Toyota for over 14 years now and not seen a case before, your issue plus the magazine makes a couple so hardly a common issue. Are you the original owner, when was the car registered, do you have a full dealer service history?

OK when was it registered after 1 June 2010 you have a 5 year warranty, before 1June 2010 then its a three year policy which will be out and as you are not the original owner and since you have owned it not shown any goodwill to Toyota ( using them for servicing ) you are very unlikely to get any goodwill back from Toyota.

A quick Google came up with the following of interest:-

http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/toyota/avensis-2009/

It may not be common yet but it could be something to watch out for on the T27 shape.

I must urge Avensis , 2009 - on models , to check their doors when they are open . Where the restainer arm goes inside the door , the metal cracks below and above the bolts . It is difficult or virtually impossible to see , but if you touch the metal you can feel the cracks . There is obviously a flaw or weakness in the metal , and needs sorting

I'm working on warranty in Europe, but not on cars. As you may understand i'm not from England too so i'm not familiar with law regulations. There are cases that has almost no time restriction if it is more massive and claimed as design or constructional drawback. Cracks in metal may be caused only by swinging on doors (not a lot of users do that i think) or just to weak and/ or thin metal (as metal fatigue it is way too early), that is more convincing. My opinion, the more claims filled on Mr.T the more attention it gets, the more alike cases come up to daylight the easier Mr.T is convinced that there is a problem for sure, as for small amount of cases it is rejected as not common and user caused.

I have seen this happen, but it is certainly NOT a common thing to happen

Your first point of call MUST be to your dealer. They will put an out of warranty request to Toyota and it will be logged on their system

No point in berating Toyota if you have not even been to see them yet

The issue of the front doors cracking on Avensis T27 is an old one, as you can see at the link from above. I experienced it myself .The front doors were replaced with new one on warranty basis.
