A Good Buy?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a Toyota Rav4, but don't want to pay more than £1000. I already have a Toyota Yaris, but am looking at getting something bigger, with equal if not better reliability.

I have my eye on this, and was wondering what you think of it:

http://www2.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201310299529566/sort/default/usedcars/make/toyota/maximum-mileage/up_to_80000_miles/model/rav4/page/1/postcode/le101ja/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/seller-type/trade_adverts/radius/40/fuel-type/petrol/transmission/manual?logcode=p

Of course it's old, but with Toyota's reliability and the cars low mileage, would this be a problem? A plus is that it has four new tyres, which im assuming would run me back at £300-£400 for a set?

Thanks,

Clint Eastwood had a phrase for buying a car like that:

"Are you feeling lucky today,punk"?

It could be great or a poc .. at this distance we have no idea,

If a dealer is prepared to retail a car of this age, he must have reasonable confidence in it given the amount of consumer protection law there is now. One elderly owner and 70K miles on a '96 would indicate fairly light use; as long as it hasn't all been short local runs from cold then it could be a real find. Go see it, ask lots of questions, give it a good long test drive & if possible try to speak to the previous owner (eyeball the V5 for name & address) - as long as he/she wasn't TOO old!

It's an old car so it won't be perfect but if it's been looked after you could be on to a winner.

Check out the dealer though. When I tried to access his website, it wasn't there!!

Good luck & let us know how you get on.

Hi , I use to own one of this type years ago, it was always very reliable, make sure the timing belt has been changed....and looking at the photos of this car, the radiator looks corroded maybe worth further investigation .
