2.0 Vvti/auto Buying Advice

Dear All,

I am considering buying a 2.0vvti/automatic car (probably an estate) 2003-2008 shape car,

I am looking for some buying advice..

Only notable major issue I can see on the 'net is the oil consumption problem and possibly Oxygen sensor failure (are the two possibly connected ?).

Does the oil-issue affect the 2.0vvti engines in these very much, and is there any way of telling an affected vehicle if I go to look at one for sale ??

A lot of the cars I am seeing for sale are around 100,000 miles mark - how risky a purchase is one of these ? I am assuming the cure is a new/recon engine so if I got caught with this how easily are these available and are there any palces inLondon that will do a supply/fit of a decent quality and price.

Whats the reason for Ox sensor failure ? Is it the oil-burners that do this, or are there other issues causing this ?

How reliable are the auto-boxes (4-speed ?) and are they easy to maintain re: ATF and Filter changes...(is the required ATF type straightforward to get or some weird fluid ??)

lastly.. any other issues I should know of and what tolook for other than the usual things on a used car.

Cheers eeryone

Dionysus.

Hi Dionysus,

Somebody else has posted a similar request on the forum. Please see the following.

http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/160058-feedback-on-2006-20d4-vvti-t-spirit-please/

Only the smaller vvti engines had the oil burning issue.

Keep searching the forum or Google 2 ltr vvti engine issues. Chain rattle! Regular oil changes help chain cam life. Check Honest John. The early Avensis T25 had issues with headlights. If you can obtain a OBD2 scanner to see if there are any faults stored in the ECUs, regardless if they were fixed or outstanding. Check the EML(engine malfunction light), ABS and SRS warning lights work and extinguish when the engine starts.

Can't say much about the auto gearbox, hardly any complaints.

Good luck on your search.

Konrad
