Driving With Lift

Still busy running in my T-Sport but not long until I can start having some fun with lift. What sort of kick can I expect? How loud is the engine? Used to changing gear much lower in rev range so will take some getting used too/ Whats the best gear to drop too at 50 mph on a motorway?? Any other tips????

Cheers

Dunno about the 'lift' range but i can tell you how i used to drive my gt4 (st205).

On the 1/4 mile i would use 1st up to about 30mph then 2nd up to about 70mph then 3rd would be to about 100-105mph by that time i was at the end of the runway and didnt need any more gears

I assume the Gen7 190 gearbox has similar rev ranges.

if your changing down at about 50 for max power i would choose 2nd or 3rd. Seeing as you have a 6 speed and less torque/bhp your probably looking at 3rd or 4th but this will be because your gearbox is geared to use the full range of 6 speeds.

Apologies if i am wrong on this, never driven the gen7 but this is how i expect them to work

I've been in a Honda Accord Type R and you do notice the kick up the top of the rev range but its more of the feeling that the engine is topping out and then when it gets there its like it turns round and says 'Fooled you'

Nice one, sounds about right. Its getting passed 'the engine shouldn;t be reving this high' feeling. Can't wait to try it though! :)

As long as you've got 600 miles on the clock then floor it!!! Lift bangs in at 6200 rpm (so long as the engine is fully warm) and gives you a high right up to 8200. It's quite a rush!!! The Celica though does have an achilles heal and that is going (in Banzai mode) from 2nd to 3rd. It's quite normal to gun it in 2nd in lift, hit 3rd and find you've fallen out of lift. That's why a fitted a TRD quickshifter as it practically eliminates this.

At 50mph on the M Way it'll pull smoothly in 6th but if you want vrooooom mode drop her to 4th. All gets a bit noisy in lift though, quite thrashy.

Yiu may also want to consider putting the TTE loweing springs on (Toyota dealer fit) and it makes the Celi look and handle soooooo much better. It drops her 30mm which doesn't sound like much but what a difference. All other Celi's look like they're on stilts without the TTE's on. You're looking at circa £250 all in including 4 wheel alignment.

Good luck with giving her a good thrashing though.

cheers

That's what made me decide to go for the 140 rather than the 190 !!

I'm a little confused here (no real change there!)

What is this 'Lift' you are referring to? Seriously..... I have no idea what you're all talking about.

VVTL-i has both Variable Valve Timing and Variable Valve Lift. The latter is achieved by an extra cam lobe that is brought into play by the engine electronics via a hydraulic actuator. This high speed cam is always turning with the low & medium cam but is pushed into play when the engine hits 6200 rpm giving the car the extra 49bhp it has over the VVT-i engine. The extra ponies come in with quite a push so it's always a hoot. It was part developed by Yamaha motorbikes who know a thing or two about high revving engines.

Of course all of the above might be completely wrong
