Not all dealers have their own bodyshops - some use a local independent bodyshop they refer work to (usually manufacturer and insurance approved). If the latter scenario is the case in your area, the bodyshop may be cheaper than you think.

If it is only a small area, someone like Chipsaway may be worth considering as well.

Oh. Am not sure by way whether other person intends claiming on insurance for the scratches on her driver door, so assume must notify my insurer but if under excess then intend to get work done myself, hopefully.

If an insurance claim is made and assuming the damage was a fault claim against you, think you will be liable to pay your excess. In which case, you may as well get your damage repaired within the overall claim, rather than pay for the repair yourself.

Depending on the extent of the scratches on the third party's vehicle, it may be worthwhile having a word with the third party beforehand to determine what they are intending to do.

Bear in mind that they may need to be kept mobile, so in addition to repair costs, car hire may be involved.

Depending on the severity of the scratches, the other party may be OK with a SMART repairer (Ie Chipsaway) doing the work.

Well, am not pleased, as thought would phone other party to ask what they intended but the number she has given me does not exist! She changed one of the numbers so have also tried the other number but that does not exist either. So cannot check with her as she obviously does not know what her phone number is!

If one is a landline, try one of the directory enquiry services (presume you have her address). Also try doing an internet search for her.

Either that or you've stumbled across one of the many uninsured drivers on the roads. They're not going to give you accurate details that could lead to getting caught.

Did you make a note of her car registration and the make/model of the car ? If so http://www.askmid.com/ can confirm if the person is insured (in most cases).

For SMART repairs I used a local company to repair a scuff on the front wing of my mondeo - cost was £150. I also enquired at the time for a price to repair some marks on my wifes previous Yaris caused by people opening their doors onto her car when parked too closely (you know the kind of marks) and that was quoted at £150. Eitherway, it was cheaper than going through insurance and then disclosing for the next 3/5 years on insurance renewals.

Thanks for advice and information.

Have notified insurance in case the other party makes claim and have got two prices for the work one of which is £170 so that would be just iver excess. The insurance company will take no action unless she makes a claim so have to wait and see!

Think she put numbers round wrong way if phone number so going to try it again this evening and ask her what she intends.

Although only had the Yaris a short time am really pleased with it.

Thing to watch if you do put the repairs through your insurance, is whether there will be an increase in your premium at the next renewal or subsequent years. This can happen whether or not you have Protected No Claims Discount or similar (the current line that insurance companies use is that you're protecting the NCD, not the premium). Perhaps your insurance could confirm.

Glad you're pleased with your Yaris.

I unfortunately hit a pedestrian when I had my yaris, he came out from between two parked cars and I swear to this day I could not have seen him to stop in time but there was no witness willing to come forward and say so. I didn't think at the time to call the police, with hindsight I should have done really. He hit my wing mirror which broke off. I stopped and gave my details then after a week of not hearing from him decided to get the wing mirror fixed. 5 weeks later insurance company contacts me to say he made a claim. Fortunately Admiral were very nice to me and covered the cost of his claim without charging the excess, but I've lost my years of no claims bonus due to him not looking properly before crossing. There wasn't an increase in premium though for next year.
