Ae-86 Trueno

I know they came out in the US and Japan. I'm assuming they weren't released in the UK as I can't seem to find any info on a UK release. How about Australia?

I want to buy one. Hopefully no more than 130K miles on the clock. Thing is I don't really have a clue on how to go about it. The odd one that shows up on eBay is always a Levin and goes to about 5K. I've seen people mentioning online japanese auctions and then imports.

So basically does anyone have a guide to finding in the UK, buying and importing etc? My budget is really only about one thousand quid. Otherwise i'm going to have to settle for a VW Scirrocco and frankly even though it's a nice car it isn't half the car that the 86 is. Any info on Levins would also be appreciated as a mate of mine has his heart set on a red and black one.

Cheers for any help you can give me

Hehe not in the last 6 years unfortunately. I just fell in love with the 86 back in 94 and until now I haven't been in the position to buy one. Student costs etc.

Ahhh.... Student costs. I understand that perfectly. It's th reason I can't finish the internals of my car like I had initially planned for the summer. I should have had all the basic bolt ons in by the end of the summer. And maybe new suspension.

They were released in the uk, in '84. they were the 1st car over here with the 4AGE engine. i think they were sold to '88 (they were actually slightly cheaper than the AE82). they were never really that popular, as hot hatches were the in thing, so everyone bought the AE82. those that were sold have since been thrashed, crashed or rusted to oblivion. obviously, they are still around, but they fetch high prices due ti their popularity now, ans when people find a good one, they hang on to em!

best way to find one is just to get involved in the scene (especially the drift scene), keep your ear to the ground and check findit and eBay everyday. you'll find a lot will be in Ireland as well. you'll just have to be patient! good luck!!
