Couldn't find a short shift kit for the Aygo anywhere so thought I would do the next best thing and chop a bit off the top of the stock one, not thinking it would make much difference. I used to build short shift kits many years ago for the Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts which were 'proper' kits in that the fulcrum point was altered. Simply shortening the stick isn't really the best way to do it but crikey has it made a difference to the Aygo!

Overall movement at the gearknob when selecting gears has drastically reduced (including the slop) and it hasn't made it any 'notchier' at all. Really happy with the result for a simple mod. I took a guess at how much to cut off but it ended up about 43mm. You could easily go more than this which I might do at a later date but I was worried about the reach for the Mrs. She has actually made no notice since it was done so I guess it's not a problem! I just popped on an aftermarket gearknob (£5.95) as the stock one will no longer work after this mod as you will be cutting off the threaded portion.

Well worth doing if you have no need for the stock gearknob :)

PS very messy interior...

Sorry I thought you said you had a wife...

So why is the car messy or is she in the kitchen preparing beer and sandwiches...

No she was upstairs in fishnets and suspenders, pestering out of the window about when I would be finished with me knob. I told her she had to wait of course. Impatient cow she is.
