Brake Change

Guys, I'm about to replace the front discs and pads on the GTi. I have done this before on my MR2 and it was a piece of cake.

Not having gotten to the car yet (it's raining) is there anything specific that would not be the same as the MR2?

Are there any How-to's for the AE92 Corolla GTi out there?

I have all the bits and misc. consumables including copper grease, meths, cable ties, G-Clamp & piece of 18mm ply (to push pistons back in). Anything else that would help?

Cheers

How to guides I don't know about other than a Haynes manual (about £12ish). I couldn't live without mine!!!

Other tools you'll need:

A sledge Hammer probably, as the disks will be well stuck on. Good luck getting them off!!

What disks and pads did you go for?? Where from??

Yeah, I have a Haynes manual too B) Wouldn't be able to do half the stuff I do without it either! :D

I have access to a tool that was designed to remove discs. But I don't know if the bloke is at home today... A rather large lump-hammer is at hand tho :lol:

I went for blue-print Ferodo discs and Greenstuff pads. I got mine delivered by companies/manufacturers I sorted out to be included into the Gold Discount Scheme. All delivered to my door for less than £90 ;) B)

I've heard mixed reviews about Greenstuff pads. I think it was Dawsey that said in a previous post that when he had some they resulted in one of his grooved discs cracking. I think he ended up going for Mintex or something.

But let me know how they get on as I really need to get new discs. My old standard ones are almost worn out! :bye:

From what I have been told, I think there is more of a problem with drilled and/or grooved discs than EBC Pads... But we'll see  I just hope they will be worth the little extra paid.

Already the bite distance on the pedal is much improved, but this could be the case with any disc/pad manufacturer. It's too soon to tell the performance as they are not bedded in yet.

Here is a photo of the discs and pads completed:

I will post a full photographic "How-To" later this weekend when I get the chance.

I didn't have a problem with the discs comming off the hub at all, they just slipped off, But if you do encounter a discs that's stuck on, there are a couple of ways of removing it. This will be explained in my how-to.
