[Diy] - Rav4 4.3 Daytime Runnig Lights (Drl) - Oem Style

Hy All.

Here is new improvement that I personally added to my RAV4: OEM DRL.

OEM means that is not about adding any kind of LEDs (which are illegal - you can not add any new lights on your car without authority approval), but the way it was suppose to be implemented if you've bought that option: High beam ON but at half of intensity. Of course when the light sensors starts the low beam the DLR is automatically turned OFF.

So here is the schematic:

What you may need:

-4 Auto relays:

-Few connectors:

-2m long cable (2 wires)

All the relays will easily feet inside the left fusebox, in engine room, in empty slots, near the lights fuses that you must short for this project (fuses are arranged in schematic vertically in the same way as they are installed on your car):

Even if the "negative" wire from the right high beam is rooted inside the fusebox, I was unable to identify it there so I cut it near the plug and used another 2 wire cables to from plug to fusebox. The "minus" wire is the black and white one:

A constant +12V source can be easily detected inside the fusebox - I used one of the white thick wire from right exterior wall of the fusebox.

To make things by the book the DRL should work only when the dimmer switch is set to Auto and the contact is on ACC (or engine started). To achieve this you need to control the power relay via the dimmer switch.

I connected the power relay coil to a 2 wire cable that is rooted from engine room inside the cabin, under the steer wheel and wired like this:

The white is +12V when ACC or Engine is ON and the Red one is GND when the dimmer switch is set to Auto (Because in your car the wires may differ you can use a Voltmeter to identify them).

Good luck!
