Eggs Are Gone

Well, it appears the modding bug, a mild dose of it at any rate, has taken a hold on me. I enclose pics showing the de-egged lights on iQ and have to say -even though my wife does not get it- it looks, shall I say, cleaner. I guess it's like leaving egg yoke on a dinner plate, it just doesn't look right. Front and rear indicators that were in there are now spares, as are the sidelight bulbs from the front.

I used the following from links provided by Tarquin, aka David. They were so easy to fit... okay, I had a problem getting purchase on the passenger side sidelight due to the proximity of 'stuff' under the bonnet on that side. All the other bulbs are a piece of wee-wee to change. There was a problem when I first installed the drivers side sidelight LED bulb replacement- the 'polarity' I think it was that David said (I'm sure you will correct me if I got that bit wrong) is one sided? Anyway, when I tried the LED bulb after fitting into the connector, it did not work, so I took it out and turned it over the other way. Then it worked. Although the light is whiter, it is no brighter, at least in daylight.

Pukka wish i had them in mine. Lol

David

Sometimes, the biggest form of flattery is copying what someone else has done. You were right, they do look an awful lot better, even if Jan doesn't get it.

A straight-forward mod which makes a huge difference to the overall appearance ^_^

Plus for the LEDs they drain a lot less and generate no heat.

Oh yeah, it certainly does. Of course, anyone can do this, it's just knowing which parts to order without wasting money. For that, you need a David/Tarquin, luckily, we have one on this forum.

True, true. Whilst they do look whiter, they are no brighter! And that rhymes... Okay, so that's not so good. :dontgetit:

Ive checked that link for the indicator bulbs and when you do a search on their eBay page it says that they dont fit the IQ!

As regards LED lighting, when we had LED streetlights installed in our road, I had a lengthy chat with one of the design engineers. LED lighting isn't either whiter or brighter than halogen lighting - instead it operates over a broader spectrum that is visible to the human eye, and 'appears' to provide a whiter light.

Hi Ben

You can use pretty much anything for indicators as long as its a T20

Likewise there are thousands of things on eBay that say they are for the iQ and it definitely does not Like festoon led bulbs. Well unless I'm blind and modifying a different dome light then there is no way in the world it would fit an iQ

"Yeah, a'know" read that like Andy says it from Little Britain. Thing is, David sent me the link, and I read that too. However, having seen the end of the bulb that slots into the fitting, I knew they would be all right, besides which, David told me they would, and that was good enough for me. I even fitted them on my own... with a bit of cursing as I caught my clumsy hand on the sharper edged bits under the bonnet. :lol2:

Ive fitted the LEDs to the side and number plate lights, so thats good. Just waiting on the silver bulbs to be delivered now and all will be good in the hood.

I think... Yep, too small, even if they look right shape wise. How frustrating. I take it you've contacted the seller and they're going to fix you up with the right size bulbs?

I haven't got in touch yet, will do it after. Yeah not too impressed, they weren't cheap either. Just hope they are willing to change and that they carry the bulbs I need.

Thanks I found some. The ones in your link shine red so aren't suitable for indicator bulbs. I think the stop/tail bulbs in the iQ are normal bulbs.
