Gen7 Driver Window Nightmare

Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago the driver's side electric window stopped working on our 2002 Celica. Since then I've done a lot of troubleshooting but am none the wiser to the fault. All the time the passenger side window works perfectly.

As the window was stuck open I connected the Battery directly to the motor wires to raise it again and this worked, so I know the motor is fine and the glass aligned.

When I put a multimeter on the connecter for the window motor and press the switch the passenger side gets 12V as expected but there is nothing going to the driver's side motor.

I swapped the driver's side fuse with the passenger side that I know to be working and that didn't work, I've also changed the entire switch control unit by the gear stick and nothing has changed.

So, I have ruled out the fuses, motor and the switch and I'm out of ideas. What else is there between switch and motor that is stopping the signal?

I've searched and posted on a couple of other forums with no success. I'm hoping that I'm blindly missing something obvious that is an easy fix!

You'll need to check the continuity of the wiring. It probably failed where the loom goes through the door. A cheap multi meter should help identify the problem in no time.

I've used a multimeter where the wiring connects to the motor in the door and there is nothing. I've even checked the passenger door to make sure I was testing correctly and that showed continuity and the correct voltage.

You'll have to gain access to the loom where it enters the door. It'll be encased in a flexible rubber boot between the door and body, This is where the wires break from the regular flexing when you open/close the door. Find the broken wire, solder in a new bit to bridge the break, tape it up to get it all nice and waterproof again and away you go. Might as well check the other wires in that area while you have that 'rubber boot' open.

Opening the 'rubber boot is the tricky bit. It'll probably be stuck at both ends and cutting it open leaves the cables inside unprotected...
