Any Chance Of A Hybrid Gti

I've had my Auris Hybrid for nearly a year now, and I have come to like it more and more, the only thing that would make it better, for me, would be a bit more power.

Do you think Toyota would ever make a GTi version of the Auris or Prius with the 2.5ltr hybrid motor from the Lexus IS, I'm sure it would attract a younger customer to hybrid cars?

They already do, just not in the UK or European market where diesel is king (in most places).

The Aussies produce a RHD Camry Hybrid with a 2.5 litre engine that gets fuel economy slightly worse than a diesel Avensis. OK, the Camry has an auto transmission and more power and better emissions, but the focus here is on CO2 fuel economy and a manual diesel excels at that.

Also, the very way a hybrid is made is for fuel economy. The petrol engine is on the Atkinson cycle which whilst very efficient, is lacking in acceleration power. The electric motor makes up for that to compliment each other - like a turbo on a diesel car.

In other words it's a limited market. Honda tried with the CRZ, which isn't exactly a good seller.
