Remove Bonnet Heatshield

Is it ok to remove the headshield on the inside of the bonnet? I would like to remove it for cosmetical reasons as it is becoming worn and engine bay would look cleaned without it I guess.

Tried pulling out the clips which are holding it but no success. Does anyone know how to remove them?

If anyone can tell me why it is there in the first place, I'm all ears.

Noise suppression and paint protection from the heat? Guesses really.

Presume the heat shield is there to prevent heat damage to the bonnet's paintwork. Not all versions have a heat shield.

i took mine off jet washed it and then put it back on .... just had to keep wiggling the clips while gently pulling to get it off

Did some research. Should be fine to remove. It's apparently there to help stop some engine noise, and to help reduce temperatures. However, as you are moving when the engine is running (I assume :p) no need to worry about it.

I think I will leave mine as the engine does between 5 and 7 Hr journeys

Thanks for your helpfulness guys :) Removed the heatshield and now it's much better. Did also hide the washer piping as it was right under the heatshield. Now routed inside the bonnet.
