Hi Following a recent MOT failure of my wifes' 2006 Corolla, rather than spend the quoted £675, I bought a replacement seat base from a scrap dealer. After removing all the seat trim, and disconnecting the backrest, I was left with a "bicycle brake" type cable connecting the base to the backrest. This was extremely difficult to remove from the base, and as a result, the plastic retaining clips were damaged. And to make matters worse, there is nowhere on the replacement base, for this cable to be relocated.

As a result, the airbag warning lamp is constantly illuminated on the dash. Can anyone offer a solution to this problem, other than the obvious (get the correct seat base).

Thanks

Paul

What did it fail the MOT on? Was it re the SRS warning light?

Hi Mr Balls,

Failed due to drivers seat adjustment broken. Pin sheared on one side. Replaced seat base using a salvage unit which is almost identical, apart from not having the all important airbag cable locating slot. Now the seat is OK, but the airbag light is lit on the dash which will be a failure upon retest.

Can the light be disabled....?

Apart from disabling the actual bulb or LED, no. Wouldn't it be more important to know that the supplementary restraint system is connected and working properly.

Can a slot not be cut into the seat base to feed the cable through?

"Bicycle brake" type cable sounds like a bowden cable, this is a cable usually used on a three door car to release the seat lock and allow the seat to tilt and slide, this has nothing to do with the electrical airbag side of things.

Reading your post it appears you have kept the original seat back rest and fitted it to the scrap seat base? I assume you have plugged the electrical connectors back in for the seat back airbag, seat occupant detectors and seat belt buckle, did you disconnect the Battery as required whilst swapping the seat ?

Hi guys,

Same problem for me, the pin snapped off on one side. I have purchased another seat from a scrapyard, its the same design except a 2003 issue instead of 2006 (but pretty sure the mechanics are the same).

The seat trim however is different as I have option trim on my car, but how to i take off the seat base mechanism from the seat base cushioning so i can replace onto mine?

The bolts look circular with no pattern so a bit confusing.... ? Do i need to take off the seat cover material or something to access other points?
