A Few Questions...

Hey guys, new here, hope you dont mind me asking a few questions. Im a newbie with cars so please go easy on me if i'm asking dumb questions lol.

I bought a 2005 yaris 1 litre 3dr a few weeks ago. At the time of buying, car seemed legit etc, i spent 2 grand on it so i expected it to serve me well. There was a whistling noise coming from the drivers side at 25mph plus when i did test drive and gets louder when i open the window, but I was advised by a friend that this was nothing to be concerned about. However, last week i noticed that when i steer left, i hear a metal squeak as if something metal is colliding. even if the steering wheel is slightly left when driving straight, that noise comes. It is really stressing me out, I am a uni student and spent all my savings for this car, and dont really want to fork out more to fix it etc.

So i have the following questions:

1). what is that whistle and how can i get rid of it, ive read around that is it a common fault? nonetheless, i would like to get rid of it please.

2). why is that squeak happening when i steer left?

3). my car needs a service, and the previous owner did them all at pinkstones toyota, if i had money i would go there too lol, but as i said, im a student, can anyone recommend a good reliable service specialist for toyota yaris? reasonable price please.

anyway guys, sorry for the essay, and anyone who can help me out, i would really appreciate it. i dont know anything about cars lol, and was advised by a mate to check out this forum.

thanks!

have you looked at fixed price servicing that toyota offer, you might find it comes close to independents

I think the whistling noise is coming from the wing mirrors (it is on mine)

Just put some thin sticky foam between the housing where the mirror folds

The other noise sounds like the front brake pads or maybe the backing plate

As for servicing ask your local friendly dealer first then decide

cheers gary, this is what i did prior to posting on this forum, but its made no difference. see the pictures attached. im pretty sure i havent done the foam method correctly? if so, i would appreciate you guiding me, because placing the foam between the housing doesnt make much sense to me.

would appreciate another reply from you mate. cheers

Hi mate

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear, on my mirrors I stuck the foam on the under side of the mirror when it's folded in (not on the curved part)

There is a small gap between the mirror and the housing, so when you put the mirror back into the correct position

the foam gets squashed and fills the gap, and hopefully no more whistling

Hope this helps

No not there

Let's start again

1 Fold the mirror housing against the car

2 On the under side of the folded in bit, there is a flat surface (lay on the floor if necessary to see it) stick the foam there

3 fold the mirror out, the the foam will then fill the gap between the two housings at the bottom (the air going through the gap makes the whistling noise)

Good luck
