540gm refrigerant. Aircon specialists will have all the technical data for refrigerant charge + lubricant charge and type.

My local indie connected mine to his machine which drained it and weighed what was in there, did other tests then recharged it with the correct amount of fluids that was needed and he did stress that was the correct and only way to do it.

I should just like to add that I have used this guy for a few years now and have been entirely satisfied with the work done and the way I have been treated

An aircon system in good condition should have a temperature differential between the inlet and outlet vent of around 12 degC - depends on several factors. Therefore as the car internal temperature drops - so does the aircon outlet temperature. The often used term of ice cold isn't possible in practice - there's usually a trip at about 5 degC which prevents ice formation within the unit.

As noted, a commercial aircon service unit automatically empties the system, goes through a dry nitrogen cycle to remove water vapor, tests the system integrity to hold vacuum then replenishes the refrigerant and oil - sometimes with the addition of a dye for leak detection in the future. As pointed out - this is the only way to do the job properly - using a refrigerant top-up kit can often end in tears!

When the air con system is professionally serviced, how is the lubricant and leak detector dye fed into the system. Is it pre mixed in the refrigerant or added separately.

The three components are fed in separately. The lubricant and refrigerant aren't miscible so there would be a practical difficulty in premixing. Most of the oil sits in the compressor - some is entrained with the refrigerant and is carried around the system. It's important to run aircon systems regularly about once / week to ensure that the compressor bearings and seals stay well lubricated.
