The only real news here is the choice of batteries - the fact the Prius will use Toyota's modular platform has been known for a while.

America is the second largest Prius market in the World. That means Toyota are going to continue aiming the car towards that market; bigger engine, more power, bigger seats, interior, four wheel drive etc, and before we know it, it'll be a small 4wd SUV getting 40 mpg. lol

That's an exaggeration but that's usually the way things.

Or hopefully Toyota will ensure that the Prius is the Worlds most economical, no compromise family sized car. The heat has been turned up significantly since 2009 when the gen3 was released. It's no longer just Honda they have to watch out for.

Wonder if Toyota will promote the Gen 4 Prius a bit more enthusiastically in the UK than they do the Gen 3. Plenty of ads for Yaris and Auris hybrids ("come join the Toyota hybrid family"), but hardly ever a mention for the only Toyota hybrid designed specifically as such.

Good job the !Removed! drive on the left or, I'm thinking, we may never have seen it here at all in RHD form. Still seems to sell reasonably well here though, even considering it's relatively high price.

Japan is a right hand drive country, which is why grey imports were so popular in the UK.

And the four wheel drive! ☺

there are markets in N. America where you need 4wd - Jaguar has had to introduce it for those as well.

The US forum has a similar thread to this and a lot of them think a 4wd version would be ideal. Many owners living in remote or cold and icy areas say they have an SUV or 4wd as a 3rd car purely for the colder times. Some have a Subaru as a 2nd car instead, but we know they're thirsty cars.

If Toyota can offer a 4wd Prius, then it will have a market. OK it may be a third less economical than the 2wd version, but it'll still be significantly more economical than a Subaru Forester. If it gets Americans out of such cars, then it's a good thing for all of us?

There will be a RAV Hybrid coming along next so no need for a Prius 4wd

I have seen somewhere this year that Toyota may not bring the Rav 4 hybrid to Europe due to the higher incidence of towing (caravans, etc), and they may retain the diesel engined Rav 4 for the European market.

Or they don't want it taking sales from Lexus? :)
