Avensis (2008) & Ipod Connector

Can anyone advise me...

I'm looking at ways to connect my iPod to my car (an Avensis 2008). Ideally I want a more permanent fixture – an iPod connector rather than tuning it through a radio frequency.

Also, my iPod is fairly old and somewhat of a 'brick' by today's standards – It's an iPod Photo 30GB (M9829B) 4th generation.

Any thoughts? How cheap/quick/easy to fit, etc.

Thanks =))

There's a few threads on here about it, most seem to suggest fitting some kit, xcarlink was one, can't remember the other popular one.

probably just as easy to replace the head unit. Its only 12 screws. However if you want to keep the original look get an FM modulator.

The antenna plugs into this as well as your i-pod and transmits directly to the radio. This way you don't start loosing signal.

I have also heard of people using the line in jack for the CD changer (if not fitted) but i've only had a Toyota for a little while so i'm not sure on this one.

You'll need to be careful - some ipod adapters will not work on the Sat Nav head unit. Other options are Grom and Yatour - both offered on eBay.

Hi Naomi. Your post is on the right track.

Mike, Gary and Alan are all correct. Your head unit has a connector for a CD changer that you can plug the USB/Ipod adapter.

The main thing with these adapters, so long as it the correct for your head unit and your ipod, you should have full integration. You probably are already aware that the steering controls will work the track selection. Sound quality will be better too.

Google 'avensis ipod' and you should get a lot of responses.

Does anyone know hoe to go about converting the radio to DAB?

Hi Marcus,

The aerial needs to upgraded for DAB reception via a booster and/or second DAB specific aerial.

I Googled the following:

http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Integrated_add-on_DAB_car_radios.html

http://www.carcommunications.co.uk/car-accessories/dab-digital-car-radio

http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Quick-fit_add-on_DAB_car_radios.html

The other route is to change the head unit.

Thanks for that Konrad.

At those prices I may just install a new head unit from my ol fiesta as it has DAB

shame though as I think a single DIN unit will make the interior look a little wired.

Has anyone on here done the change and has a pic?
