'knocking' Noise From Steering

Hi,

I am new to this forum and this is therefore this is my first post.

I drive a 2006 Corolla 2.0 D4d.

I am wondering if anyone has experienced a knocking sound/feel from the steering at low speed on uneven surfaces?

I have carried out basic checks on ball joints, steering rack, joints on steering column etc and everything seems fine.

Might the electric power steering motor be the problem?

Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

theres a bolt on the steering rack that comes loose and just needs to be tightened, try that.

toyota have replaced racks over this issue thinking it was something bigger than it actually was....

Interesting, but which Bolt do you mean ? one or all of the 4 rack mounting bolts or some others around where the steering column connects ?

I will get a look at it over the coming weekend and let you know how I get on.

I am now also hearing slapping noise from transmission when i change gear or when I lift and press accelerator pedal. May be time for a change.
