Step Up From Aygo

Hello,

I hope it's not too heretical to ask this on here, but eventually, in a number of months I'll probably be looking into upgrading to a slightly bigger petrol car with a bit more power and 5 doors but it must have decent fuel economy and reasonable running costs. It would be a used car and I don't think I'd be prepared to spend more than £5k. Can anyone recommend anything?

Slightly larger than an Aygo, more powerful, better fuel economy, cheap to tax, insure and maintain, used is 3-5k, you can use the aircon without fuel economy going down the toilet and some of them have SUNROOFS!

('tis diesel tho; You can get the less good 1.3 or 1.0 versions I suppose... :P)
