Corolla 1998

Hi All,

Just purchased a Corolla 1.3, 1998 model. Very pleased with it so far and extremely comfortable. Being a new owner I have a few questions I need answer to :

1. How much does it cost to get another key cut ? I've heard it's around £50 to £150, surely it can't be that much ?

2. The car we bought has a few dent's which I would like repaired, can anyone suggest a cheap, and good body repairer in Bristol area ?

3. Does the Corolla need a cambelt change ? Or are they chain driven ? The car has done 40,000miles

4. It's a 5 door model, and the original strings holding up the parcel shelf were replace with some tacky parcel string. Can I get the proper strings from Mr Toyota, or will they make me buy a new parcel shelf ?

5. The car has a Meta Alarm fitted, but we only have 1 key fob which is coming to the end of it's life, does anyone know if replacement key fobs can be obtained. If not, any suggestion of a cheap alarm installer in Bristol ? Sorry guys, on a very tight budget.

Thanks,

About your strings on the parcel shelf, ring your local toyota dealer and ask for their parts department, quote em your chassis number and they should be able to help you. Although I get a funny feeling that they will charge you a ridiculous amount for them :ffs:

in response to your question about cambelt change, mine was done at 50k miles which i think is the standard change

Here in the US, the cambelt schedule is between 60,000 and 90,000 miles (Toyota bounces back and forth depending upon its mood and how greedy its dealers are at any given time). My '93 L-reg with the 7A-FE has had its cambelt replaced at 60,000 and again at 120,000.

Cambelt change is usually every 60k or age of the car. I'd say it's definitely due for one if it hasn't already been done. Think of the cost if it snaps!!! Don't need to get it done at Toyota. Ring around a few local garages and get an idea of price. Same with body shops, can't see it being cheap though. Maybe a specialist dent repairer than a bodyshop or crash repair.

Parcel shelf strings........scrapyard......pennies.

And welcome to the club!

Joe
