Sunroof Rust?

Hi all

Thought I would give the Rav4 a good clean today, while doing so I opened the sunroof and I noticed the front edge as really badly rusted, has anyone else had this issue?

Also it look like it's just th metal trim on the inside is it possible to get this metal plate replaced?

The front edge of the opening is part of the roof panel (unless you mean the edge of the wind deflector).

it's best to tackle rust at the earliest opportunity so it's a case of getting back to bare metal, applying a rust treatment such as Kurust then repainting.

Unfortunately is got past that stage and really could do with being replaced but not sure how easy it is to do

It's not at all easy. Getting a rolled lip profile is easy enough but attaching this to a flat section and blending it in is difficult. If it was me with a car of this age - I'd grind the rust keeping as much of the lip as possible, use fibreglass mat and resin to buildup the underside then fill and blend in the top face. This section is known to corrode but corrosion in this area is often aggravated by blocked sunroof drains.
