Hi there

I got a 1987 Toyota Carina Saloon (AT151)

Shes been sat around for a while now so needs a bit of recommissioning before the road soon. But have noticed the rear is sitting a bit lower than normal, it doesnt bounce more than the 1.5 as most cars meant to. Theres no weeping or anything just the dust covers need replacing.
But is having the rear sagging abit an mot fail?

Thanks Jon

Hi Jon,

My 91 Carina had a low back end for a few years and never failed mot because of it - ( I got advisories because of rust on the springs that's all) and still passed last year with severe sag at back as original springs were knackered and rusty after years of towing etc. This didn't seem to affect anything other than being too low and always bottoming out on the tow bar on rough ground, speed bumps etc when they got really bad - the car always drove fine! I just replaced springs and shocks and dust covers at 220,000 miles and ride height is spot on now. The shocks were probably ok but I thought I may as well do the lot while it was all apart as they'd taken a hammering with the springs being so soft.

Good luck, Rob
