Hi all. Help please. My 1998 caldina ST215 non turbo 4 wheel drive has developed an auto gearbox problem over the last 3000 miles or so. It is taking longer for the box to change up gears. This is slightly better when the car warms up. About 3-4 miles or so. Also when slowing down to a junction or roundabout say it changes down to 1st gear to early. About 20 mph so when you accelerate again it revs like mad. Would this be oil. I have checked the level with engine running and it is correct. The oil also looks clean. Car has done 48000 miles and was only imported 18 months ago

Thank you all in advance

Even if it looks clean! It could be the wrong grade of oil in there? I would find out what oil needs to go in and drain the old stuff out and refill. Never use a flush on auto boxes.t

Thank you. Just drained it this morning. The oil is still red with a hint of brown I suppose. The filter has a very very light coating of a grey residue on the gauze parts but I wouldn't say it was blocked

Any idea what grade of oil to use. Toyota dealer by me are useless. They just say they have no idea as it's a jdm. I have read on forums about T type but they have never heard of it
