The procedure for this fault is to check for an open or short in the harness and connector between the Skid control ECU and ECM.

If no faults are found with the wiring, then - the MIL stays off when ignition on but engine not running (Requires ECM replacing)

- the MIL comes on when ignition on but engine not running (requires ABS & traction actuator assembly)

I'v have the same problem but in my case one of the Diesel Injectors have lost pressure (and the engine output is at 20%) and ECU has gone into safemode. being a 1AD-FTV and that toyota don't manufacture the old Injectors I need to replace all 4 =/

Hi Gary,

first thing to try is disconnect the Battery negative for a short time and this may clear the fault if yes and your car is a diesel the EGR valve may need cleaning due to the engine not responding to info from the ECU, if not then it has cost you nothing then try advice from others.

Pete.

Pete.

i had a prob with the old Battery and replacing it with a new one, looks that i have solved the power loss (sounds so strange, i know it)

in the past i have cleaned my egr (but looks already fine before it) and as well in the past i have resetted the ecu using my elm327 cable but both without success (some other sensors 'swap' from a fully powered avensis doen't helped)

i hope (FOR MY CAR ) that is not some ecu reset for the Battery disconnection

If you leave the Battery disconnected for thirty minutes the reconnect the ECU normally resets itself.

I have tried disconnecting the Battery but not for half an hour ( I will try that tomorrow ) the car is a petrol engine 1.8, the lights do clear for a short while but then reappear.
