Hi

Im currently driving a 2006 t spirit 2.2 (love it)

i have recently had my 1st child and the misus is moaning that we need an estate

I have seen a nice 59 plate 2.2 tspirit T180 estate and wondering what you guys think? it will lose a few mpg but it has a bit more grunt with the extra bhp (hopefully)

the 180 version doesnt have the built in sat nav or reversing camera but pretty much everything else

are there any issues with the t180 estates? am i best getting a regular 150bhp 2.2 avensis estate?

cheers in advance

Check the build date as cars built up to Feb 2009 could be affected by the head gasket issues - see http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/132178-charliefarlies-guide-to-the-toyota-2ad-diesel-engine-and-its-issues/

i think it will be ok as its a 59 plate, is there a website stating when cars were built?

be very surprised that as the top of the range the T180 didn't have satnav (or reversing camera). It's also noticeably thirstier than the 150bhp (thanks to 5th injector for DPNR) & imo the T27 series are thirstier than the T25 series (had/have 150bhp 2.2s in both).

If you get a car that was registered after June 2010 it will have come with a 5 year rather than 3 year manufacturers warranty so would still have 1 year to run (of course if you are buying it as a Toyota Approved used vehicle it should come with a 1 year warranty anyway).

From an mpg point of view the 2.2 is less efficient than a 1.8 petrol, unless you have a reason for diesel especially then the petrol might be a better option. In theory at least it should be cheaper to buy and service. MPG wise I get around 38 in the summer and 35 in winter with the CVT.

as an auto maybe (as it only now comes new as a D-CAT) but not in manual form.

Certainly a lot of arguments for the 1.8 petrol though if you are a low mileage driver. Can't imagine that there are that many high spec. (T-Spirit or T4) 1.8 Tourers around on the second hand market though. Plenty of TRs which imo is the best value for money spec.

Why not think about a 2.2 150bhp estate with a tuning box from Partsking on here, much better than a T180 all round.

Go for something mid 2010> and you should be clear of the head gasket worries.

Pete.

Hi Pete, long time no see/message :)

That sound like a great idea, im looking into it now

quick question, i know that insurance companies always ask if the car has been modified and what not, as tunit supply a removable box does the original settings restore once i remove the box? if so is ther ereally any need to tell my insurance as i could simply remove it?

do you have a tuning box pete?

and for anyone else reading this who has one, would you reccommend?

cheers

No mate, Mistermena and a few more had one, especially on the Rav forum. The insurance side up to you and I suppose there is a possibility of you not being able to take it off in the event of an accident but even then would they be looking for something like that? Have a word with Partsking at Lindop Toyota on the subject as they supply an approved one I think as some of the cheaper boxes just up the fuel rail pressure.

Happy car hunting :-)

Pete.
