2.2 Diesel Fuel Filter Problems

I have changed about nine fuel filters on 2.2 toyota's, offered last night to change a friends of a friend, changed the filter OK but when I tried to bleed the system usung the black plunger, it would not go hard and it would not start, in the end I put a pipe on the outlet from the fuel filter housing and sucked like mad, made sure the outlet pipe was full reconnected the outlet and it started, PHEW, anyone else had problems purging/bleding the fuel housing, I tried cleaning, wd40 etc, etc it is a sealed item, could do with a fix etc??? how do I change the spelling

The diaphragm in the filter carrier has failed resulting in the primer being unable to suck fuel from the tank, now you have the fuel upto the engine and running you should be fine until the filter needs replacing. To fix you will need a new filter carrier as the part is a complete assembly and not serviceable.
