Osram Night Breakers

First post, go easy on me if I haven't put this in the right place!

I have just ordered some Osram Night Breakers, I just wanted some confirmation that these will be safe to use in replacement of the standard bulbs?

Years ago I owned a VW Polo and had a bad experience when using aftermarket bulbs, they melted the inside of the headlights and I had to replace.

I know that new headlights are hard to come by for the 13> Auris so don't want to take any chances.

Any one else currently using these bulbs? If so, are they any good?

Thanks

J

Awesome bulb and much brighter than stock bulb. Haven't seen these melting any headlights although I wanted HID, I chose Night Breakers to stay on the legal side of this.

Good choice of bulb, never heard of any issues with them.

Same here, this all started since I helped my brother do a HID conversion on his car (Smart ForFour :blushing:) I then noticed how yellow mine were. As you stated HIDs aren't legal and its for this reason I have chosen to just change the bulbs. I really don't want these new bulbs to melt anything, so far i haven't read anywhere that this has happened. Fingers crossed I guess!

As I understand it, HID conversion kits aren't legal unless you replace the entire headlamp unit and fit automatic levellers and a self-cleaning mechanism. The reflectors for halogen bulbs differ to those for HID's so the beam pattern is wrong.

We've used upgrade bulbs in each of our new cars since 2001 (8), and had no issues with the headlight units.

What bulb fitting have you ordered for your Auris?

Your profile shows you have a 2014 model, and as far as I'm aware, and from previous topics, the second generation uses HIR2 bulbs. HIR2 bulbs produce approx 75% more light than standard halogen bulbs, so the improvement in light output may only be around 35% (assuming you have ordered the Nightbreaker Unlimited +110%).

Philips and now Osram produce HIR2 bulbs. When Osram began production earlier this year, I contacted them to ask whether they were going to produce an upgraded version of the HIR2 bulbs, and the answer was 'no'.

I'm using Nightbreaker Unlimited bulbs in my Mk 1 Auris & they're very good.
