I see Tesla have increased drivetrain warranty to 8 years infinite mileage retrospectively to match the Battery pack warranty.

Now that's how you do a warranty and build brand confidence.

The new car warranty stays at 4 years/80,000 miles according to their UK website. Starting price for the Tesla S is £49,900.

To build faith in your brand and warranty you need some consistency.

That was a hint to Toyota who seem to change their warranty as often as I change the oil in my car!

My new 2014 Gen 3 Prius handbook warranty states 5 years for the car and Hybrid batteries. Salesman stated the handbook is incorrect and it 5 years for the car and 8 years for the Hybrid batteries. He said it all changed recently!! I asked the salesman to get it in writing for me to confirm it is 8 years for the batteries. GC you are so right about Toyota warranties; they seem to change all the time. I am confused as to what is the correct warranty.

Whats the date of registration. If 1 April 2014> Battery will only be 5 years 100k like the rest of the car.

The dealer should have provided you with the most up to date warranty booklet or insert - so I would go back to the dealer and request that. As the correct information is already in the public domain (the Toyota website) there seems little need for written confirmation to be provided separately to you

As regards the new car warranty, only Toyota GB introduced the 5 year/100,000 mile new car warranty from 1st June 2010 - the rest of Europe retained the 3 year/100,000 kilometre new car warranty.

As regards the used car warranty, it is down to the individual country's Toyota sales organisation to decide which warranty best suits that country's retail market.

No need to get it in writing. You have the 5 year warranty, not 8. (by all means double check but this link might explain)

As others have said, new registrations from April 2014 have had the warranty reduced to 5 years. If you have the vehicle serviced at Toyota then you will benefit for the Hybrid Health Check which (assuming you maintain the correct checks) will cover the HV Battery to 10 years unlimited mileage.

BUT (and it's a big but), the expensive parts are the inverter at about £2,000 fitted and the transaxle (bit with all the electric motors in) is about £4,500!?! They are now only covered to 5 years and have been since the gen3 came out.

Toyota offered 8 year warranty from the original UK Prius, then reduced it in 2009, then increased it in 2010 and then reduced it in 2014. No wonder your dealer is confused.

GC you summed it up well. Obviously the salesman at the dealers has it wrong. I realise if I have the hybrid check done at each service the hybrid Battery warranty is covered for 10 years so no problem unless Mr T changes it in the future.
