The Toyota 1NR-FE engine (1329cc) was fitted to the IQ, Yaris and Auris from 2008. The units fitted to the second generation Yaris and Auris feature Toyota's stop/start system - the units fitted to the third generation Yaris (2011 on) had the system deleted on cost grounds.

Whilst the engine types used in the IQ are used in other models the actual engine in an IQ is specific to an IQ and there are three versions of the 1.33 for manual transmissions depending on age, Toyota have superseded the two earliest engine types up to the latest part number but to fit a later engine in an earlier car requires a list of additional parts to make it fit. There are also 2 versions of the 1.33 for the CVT IQ again based on age and again the earlier engine is superseded by the later but requiring additional parts to make it fit. None of the 1.33 versions fitted in the IQ is shared with any other Toyota model.
