Hello everyone, I have found my way in here, have got myself a drink from the bar and a sausage-roll from the buffet, and am nervously looking around to see if there is anyone I know..

We did not intend to become Toyota owners, it just sort-of happened, my wife only drives automatics and her son came back from a car auction with a MOT-less, but seemingly good-condition, '95 RAV auto. From checking its MOT history it seems to have had a struggle in recent tests to pass its emissions, and sure enough, that was all it failed on when we tried last month. The tester seems to be a Toyota fan and assured me the car was well worth a new cat, which was only £62 (ebay) anyway, somehow I was expecting it to be more?

So that's how I came to be here, my dad was a mechanic and I like tinkering, drive a '99 Rover 420SD myself so am used to older cars with Japanese origin/influence.

Ok I have a back-end problem so I shall go have a look around, and maybe have to post if I can find the appropriate place..

Welcome Alistair - glad your car's fixed, but at £62 don't expect the cat to last very long. Mine was just over £200 for a Nissan Almera & that's from a cat specialist, not Nissan themselves (who wanted nearly £400 !). The chances are that there will be very little in the way of precious metals in your replacement, so it will pass once & maybe twice maximum.

Oh well.. wasn't keen on forking out too much on a 20-yr old car, although the bodywork is fine meantime.
