Can anybody recommend a good paint repair place in Newcastle/Sunderland area, maybe a little further afield?

Somebody on the street has scraped the back right drivers side corner of our car reversing in to a parking spot that even a learner should have had no problem getting in to. The paint in the affected area is off right down to the black layers in a bout a 8cm by 1cm vertical line then a few other bits under.

We need to get a proper job done so we don't have to fork a fortune in profit out to Toyota if we have to give the car back when the 3 years expire.

The other car is an NL plated 2004 Daewoo in not particularly good condition. It's been on the street for about a year but has no tax disc (think they have 6 months to tax it?), so not holding out much hope of getting anything out of the owner even if he does decide to have the decency to open his door to us.

It's so blatant as well, he has about 12 inches of red paint and white scuffs all the way down his front passenger wheel arch. We live 6 doors away so he could of knocked or left a note it's really frustrating.

Thanks for the information.

I've had a look and the vehicle can not be found. I don't know if this is because of the site not being able to track foreign registration plates or because it isn't taxed.

I'll let the police deal with that side if they wish to, I was just letting of steam assuming that an untaxed car won't have insurance either.

An extract from the DVLA info -

7. Temporary imports

You can usually use a vehicle displaying non-UK number plates without needing to tax or register it in the UK if all of the following apply:

• you’re visiting the UK and don’t plan to live here
• you only use the vehicle up to 6 months in a 12-month period (1 single visit, or several shorter visits adding up to a 6-month period)
• the vehicle is registered and taxed in its home country

You must tax and register your vehicle in the UK within 14 days if you become a resident or your stay is longer than 6 months.

Given the above extract, if you think the person is living here or has been here more than six months, you would be quite justified in completing the form to report an untaxed vehicle using the car's existing foreign registration. It would then be down to DVLA to investigate. Also if the vehicle is taxed and insured in another country, there are probably time limits as regards usage abroad and for the insurance to remain valid.
