Car Was Hit

Hi guys, yesterday at work, while I was reversing out of a bay park, a lady was reversing out and came into the side/back of my car. She blames me, when I clearly horned as she reversed into me. I couldn't be bothered to go through insurance as it was just a little dent and cosmetic damage. What advice would u give in getting this fixed?

Also at work, whilst parked up, a car must have scraped the side of my car as I know I didn't do this.

I want to get both fixed. The picture with the wheel cap showing was when I wasnt there and the other pic, was yesterday's hit.

Thanks

Chips Away or Dents Away are ideal for fixing minor repairs. They will quote based on pictures.

Well there is a danger here, I see it most weeks of the year

What starts off as a minor knock for knock, don't worry about it, not enough to go through insurance attitude, completely changes when the other party is surfing the net for "had an accident? Not your fault?"

I have seen plenty of people get in to real trouble when one of these ambulance chasing companies get involved

You should inform your insurance company of the details, just in case it comes back to bite you on the backside later. You can tell them you have no intention of making a claim, but they will log it and take all the details down just in case

Your call, but you are not making a claim, just advising them. Keep photo's and a photo of where it happened, it is amazing with the passage of time how the other parties claim can get exaggerated!!!

It was her fault though, and she signed a paper saying no further action will be taken.

Not worth the paper she wrote on.............

In two months time how will you prove that it was her fault?

Imagine this. She now starts to feel pain in her neck, some bloke reversed out into her and he was aggressive and made her sign some paperwork, so she just signed it to get way from him.......................see where this is going?

Just the hassle of the paperwork you will have to deal with if this happens is just a right royal pain

A customer I know had a similar thing happen, 3 months later, a money grabbing Solicitor sent him paperwork dealing with a non fault accident, he had a scratch on his bumper

This is ridiculous, she hit me yet I'm the one with stress here?

No but your insurance company will be on the front foot and will have your evidence noted at the time and not months down the line. Keep those photo's you have to show the damage done

My EX was on her way to work. Two cars in front of her, a chap stopped at a zebra crossing. Everyone stopped, no problems. Some kids crossed over on the way to school. The cars started off, and she started to move, literally a couple of feet, when a child tried to run through the gap between my ex's car and the car in front. The child fell onto the bonnet with his school bag, scratched the bonnet and front panel, and he fell on the floor. She stopped, as did a witness, made sure the kid was OK, he was fine but said his side hurt where HE RAN INTO THE CAR. The childs name was taken, and someone called the Police. They arrived and he was fine, all details exchanged, and everyone went about their business. Later in the day, the Police came to the house to breatherlise her, they came because the childs Mother insisted the driver was drunk. She was not drunk and in fact was nearly tea total, but they did their job. The Ex was worried about this so she rang her insurance company. They took details and then sent somebody around to take all the facts, Police collar numbers, the full works. The Police contacted us to say the child had been given road safety advice and no further action was to be taken, a big relief to the ex as she knew it was not her fault

Several months later..........you guessed it, she received a letter from a non fault accident company, saying they were looking for compensation and to work with them to resolve it. She was right onto the insurance company who said, yep, we know, in fact we knew it would happen. The money grabbing parents wanted some cash. Our insurance held out and said no way were they ever going to pay any compensation, and to be fair they stuck to their guns, it took over a year to sort out, but they paid nothing. The insurance company said it is because they got fresh evidence written down at the time, and the fact the kid was given road safety advice, that they did not get away with it

So, a long story I know, your call

Might be a good idea to get one of those cameras that fit in your car and record everything, preferably behind as well as in front. Then if anything does happen, you have incontrovertible (what a wonderful word!) proof. Wouldn't surprise me if, some time down the line, an in-car camera becomes a requirement for a lot of insurance companies.

Seems that every car in Russia has one, must be the driving!

Very good review of one from this guy who has done a lot of work on them

Yeah, it depends on how jerky the people are in the place you live. Most people round here couldn't be ubikd with something like that, but YMMV as they say.

I had a similar incident when I first started driving but we were both "Meh" and that was it.

If the woman seemed alright, you're probably okay, but if she seemed a bit narked I'd be more wary.

The safe route is keep any evidence you have, let your insurance company know so they have it on record. Worst case your premium will go up by a small amount next year, but often it makes no difference.

Caveat: Be CLEAR you are NOT making a claim, very important that! My mate didn't after a similar incident and half way through the call realised what was happening but by that point they said it was too late as they'd already opened a claim and said they couldn't cancel it, so he lost a chunk of no-claims bonus!

What they all said - report it your insurance company but as an incident not a claim.

You will probably find that there is a requirement in the policy anyway for you to do this and if you don't and later on someone else (representing the other party) tells them, they will not be well disposed toward you. In the worst case they might even refuse to cover it.

hi, I'm an old timer and had experience from both sides. The advice you were given regarding telling your ins co is absolutely spot on. I KNOW they will want you to mention this for the next 5 or 6 years and some companies will unfairly quote you higher because of it. However, you will be safe if she does 'try it on'. Try not to get too stressed, it's all part and parcel of being a motorist these days unfortunately. Good luck anyway.
