Had the wheels off, im planning on changeing the discs and pads.

for a generation 5 the centre nut seems a funny shape.

is it simple or hard?

any one know if im likely to encounter any problems

theres 2 - 17 mm bolts at the rear of calliper and 2 - 14 mm bolts near them , take these out drop off caliper and disc should just fall off , if not whack it with a hammer , i think the nut you speak of is the end of the drive shaft ,which you dont need to touch. be carefull taking pads out though there's a few of clips , that sit them into calliper , i changed mine last week got pads and discs for £ 88 . easy job to do.
