Fuel Pump Extraction - Yaris P1 1Ltr

Two weeks ago I had a breakdown with the Yaris (from 2000, with 200k miles) I just took over from my father. The problem seems to be fuel starvation, and I want to try a second hand fuel pump for the one still in the car (that buzzes when I connect it to 12V but does not deliver fuel). My problem: I failed to open the 8 screws around the ring on top of the pump: But looking at pictures of a tank without the pump, I ask myself: do I have to open these screws, or is the ring locked in another way? Does somebody in the club know how to get out the pump and please tell me? Johannes
