H4 Bulbs

Hi all,

I want to replace the existing Headlight bulbs with Osram Nightbreakers or something similar.

Am I right in thinking that the right bulbs for my February 1998 registered Rav4 GX 3 door petrol are H4 twin filament.

I was looking at the headlights yesterday and clearly stamped on the plastic surrounds was H4 so I"m just checking that H4 is not stamped on all RAV headlights?

I"m just being careful and asking the advice of you knowledeable Toyota people.

Thanks

Think there was a change around 1998 from H4 to HB4 bulbs - so the safest way to check which bulb you have is to take one out and have a look.

If you replace the bulbs, make sure you stay with bulbs which are 60/55 watt (twin filament) or 55 watt (single filament). Bulbs with a higher wattage (eg 80W) aren't legal for road use and could damage your wiring/headlights.

See the following for an idea of costs:

Just look at the headlamp - H4 will be a single bulb - main and dipped beam are from the same bulb. Otherwise if there are 2 bulbs in the headlamp - one main and the other dipped beam - these will be HB4 for dipped and HB3 for main beam. If the latter, I'd suggest just upgrading dipped beam.

Have you got the original owners manual? In mine (2002 model year) it lists the headlights as 60/55 H4's and the front fog lights as 51Watt HB4's.
