Battery Light Has Come On

Whats the likely cause of the Battery light coming on after engine started. Is there a voltage regulator or is it a straight alternator change . If so what's the cheapest option

Very generally speaking it is easier to replace the alternator (because few garages want to get involved in actually repairing parts these days so spares can be difficult to come by) Also, if the alternator is faulty due to age the other parts will be wearing out too. As I said initially, I am speaking very generally. also, some parts nowadays are sealed units so you HAVE to buy a full unit. Hope this is helpful
