:arrgg-matey: I seen this too much on too many forums, and i saw it on a forum today.

Who thinks its right that students should spend their student loans on cars and mods . I think its wrong. The poor students cant afford this cant afford that . Hello your their to study get an education not going out on the town 3 or 4 times a week. And certainly not cheating the system buying a car with your student loan.

The majority of my student loans/grants etc went on pubs/clubs and drinks. Also got a computer from it.

I was totally broke the whole time tho. Surely it's upto the person to decide what to spend it on ?? They're not cheating the system as they are means tested to see if they are elibigable for a loan etc are they not ?

yeah... and when they suddenly get a job, they'll find its gonna cost them to pay it back...

I actually paid off mine earlier with a bank loan, as the interest from the bank worked out less than the student loans company..

Oh, and I spent mine on fee's and a computer.. oh and i spend a 100 quid on a car too!

Someone also might have a part time job working 5 days a week during being at uni. So surely it is upto them what they do when they get a wod of cash each term/year ?

i agree that times are hard but the student loan is not intended for cars car mods nitros big stereos. In my appinion students take too many Liberties. SL are pretty much interest free. Hell why not all go to uni get a student loan and buy ourselves a db7

Cheating the system???

A student, regardless of how much he/she spends on cars/going out etc. still has to feed themselves, clothe themselfs etc. Just because they might spend some leftover cash on something for them, it makes it wrong???

Thats just :censor:. I mean for those of you who think its unfair just remember we have to pay it back later on. Students are probably going to be the highest earners later in life anyway and this means they pay more tax. So all you guys who think your funding the student life you're wrong. We will pay our loans back in later life and pay more tax to fund the next generation of students - so don't worry its not costing you anything!!!

Thanks me said my part anyway

I'm doing my degree part time, as i have a full time job.

But my brothers at uni full time, he's having a whale of a time, he's also changed so much, agreed some students have a real hard time, some seem to bumble through, at the end of the day. I think we should let them get on with it and enjoy it. They only get 1 chance!! as long as they graduate thats all that matters!

Look here the entire nation has to feed themselves clothe themselves and i dont mind student loans that help the "poorer student" with this as for

leftover cash
as long as it is YOUR HARD EARNED CASH LIKE THE REST OF THE WORLD EARNS IT then fine . If its the student loan then no . I just have 1 thing to say "LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS" . Its not the fact that you have to pay it back its the fact that its pretty much interest free and pay it when you can Like a Carling beer bank commercial.

How the hell are we meant to have our own HARD EARNED CASH???

Ok I have a part time job doing about 10hrs a week. I don't exactly get a poor wage out of this but how the hell am I supposed to support myself out of it.

I include my student loan as part of my income - I dont say oooo I better be careful not to spend that £5.43 because that is from my student loan. Come on!

its the student loan then no

Why??? If I have paid all my other debts ie rent, food, electric etc then I beleive I can spend MY goddam money anyway I like. You're talking like you (the taxpayer) are actually funding the student loans. WE PAY IT BACK!! I mean ok the interest rate is low but it is slightly over inflation so who is loosing out exactly???

Its the people on benifits you need to be moaning about - and I'll join in!

So what if a student decides to spend their SL on a car? They still have to find money from other places for other things. The loans are means tested so sometimes they can be next to nothing!!

Im a student, but ok, I live at home as uni is only 30 miles away! So guess what.... I need a car to get there quodus!!!

I still work 3 shifts a week in a pub to try and get some pocket money so I can try to enjoy my life a little when I'm not studying or doing coursework. I also work full time in a degree related job whenever I'm on holiday from uni.

Overall, the student can do what they want with THEIR money (as it is that!) we still have to pay it all back!!! Then we get a nice big £2000 graduate endowment to pay too when we graduate! Lovely!! A great start to our new careers!

I think you would have a point mate if the Student Grants were still in place...

Now i really dont quite know what your problem is with student loans? It does not affect you in any way so whats the problem?

As stated above.. the average student these days comes out of Uni with £15k debt now!... Again.. how is that affecting you?

 You speak like you've never even thought of taking out a loan of ANY sort, students get their loans... and just like ANY other loan they have to pay it back. So whatever they spend the money on is up to them because it all has to go back...

Isn't that strange?

Yeah, thats what I was thinking...

Cos from this, surely your saying no-one should get a loan and spend it on things like cars...

Oh dear  I got a loan to buy my car... are you going to be annoyed at that?

And what about these people that get bigger morgages so they can build an extension... surely they must really wind you up!

i'm not a student so i don't have a loan but i can't see it being any different than a bank loan {one of which i have}. You borrow the money, spend it on what you want, then pay it back, just because it's paid back later in life and not straight away like a bank loan i can't see a difference. Dosn't matter what source it comes from it's still the genrally the same thing.

Right ! i agree that student loans arnt enough and i didnt say they wernt as as the original post about sl and car buying . You students go out and get a loan from a bank i dare ya go on you might shock yourself . As for the its their money they can do what they like with phrase, student "LOAN" it aint your money in the first place. And i bet none of you stated that you wanted a loan to buy a car. As for people that need to travel to uni, fair play you might need a car to get to uni but it doesnt mean you need to take out another student loan to pay for hi running costs because u bought a car that not economical in the first place.

What the :censor: gives you the right to tell us what we are aloud to spend OUR, I repeat OUR, money on? I mean what do you want the governement to do? Give us food vouchers and clothes vouchers????

Its a LOAN we can spend the money how we like. We pay it back.

At the end of the day if someone with a student loan wants to use it to pay his/her rent for the year, then cool. If they want to buy a computer, or car... cool. More than likely the person who buys a car will also have a part time job to help with other things.

Surely it is upto the student... like others have said, they do pay it back in the end.

Student life can be hard, but it should also be fun.

*Moxy.... take a chill pill bro*
