thats not how it is for all students though honestly. There are undoubtably some students who have very easy courses and do about 3-4 lectures a week and 2 exams at the end of a year, whilst im stuck in my engineering lectures from 9-5 most days + a hell of a lot of coursework and my 3rd year group project and 7 3 hour exams!.

That's exactly what it ws like at my Uni. Engineering and Sciences (I did Physics BTW) seem to be absolutely loads of work compared to other courses.

It really gets to me that all degrees are viewed the same, a Science or Engineering degree is far harder than, some other degrees.

I'd like to see you try doing that for a quantum mechanics exam. I used to hate the lectures as they were always 9am Monday & Friday mornings.

if i was the type of person to be doing quatum mchanics then i wouldnt be me so i'd prolly be at the lectures :)

don't worry m8, i know people who do that kinda stuff and it is insane.

Thing with my course if you can kinda learn it by urself, thats pretty much what ive done. but there are some things that u need to go to lectures for to have it explained.

e.g.

c programming - went to a few lectures, pretty much fell asleep everytime so i thawt theres no point. when push came to shove it was easy enuff to learn and do.

fractals, mandelbrot, equations etc (i.e. the maths bit) - had to go to lectures to stay on top of this stuff as maths was never my strong point.

oh, and yeh the time and day did help a little i ndeciding which lectures i went to...

But at then end of the day thats why guys like u r gonna get the higer earning scientist jobs, whilst the rest of us bums have mediocre jobs.

lol :D

I havent read the whole thread, just the first page, but what i'm going to do is put my loan in a high interest savings account for like 4 years where I cant take money out of it, then at the end of uni i'll pay them back, and keep the money i earned off the interest

And how will I fund myself during the years of uni??

Parents/part time job.

Rite enuf i started 2 pay my car off using my student loan but now i have a part time job also as there is no way i could live off my student loan!

Well just my 2p

I think student loans should be far higher than they are now - they should allow the student a reasonable life and the ability to buy all they need for their studies.

Once the student has graduated the loan should be repaid at 0% (this is at cost to the tax payer but off set by the value graduates add to society through their chosen careers).

Anyone who drops out of fails the course should repay the loan at a sensible bank loan rate (say 7%).

thats exactly what i have done.

My parents support me at uni, and my loan goes into my ISA which acrues about 3-4% NET higher than my student loan does.

Im paying it all back next month, and there should be a tidy bonus in there.

PArents think im keeping it, but im gonna book them a wine tasting weekend in scotland, as they love wine. just to say "thanks"

Cheers

You know darn well that a student loan aint there for you to make money, you may think your being intelligent but your just being a scab. You need to go to uni and learn some morals.

You want an ISA you go out and save the money like everyone one else! being a student doesnt give you the privaleage to do that!

Be ashamed be very ashamed

oh and to all of ya that say we have to pay it back - this dont mean you can spend your loans on luxury items so that you can have a better life at UNI

I have respect for all those students that budgeted and spent the money on stuff that they really need

eh???

Your talking like Student loans come out of your own pocket mate???

Which they dont... they are a self-funded organisation, and have not attachement to the tax we pay...

Why are you so angry about what students do with their loans? why do you care??

you students talk about student loans as if they were bank loans - bank loans are for things that you want but cant yet afford

Student loans are there to make sure students have an adaquate amount of money so they can fund their education eg rent, food, clothes, books, computers, going out and having a few drinks now and again. They even set the interest rate low so you dont get stung when you have to pay it back. They dont do it so its easier for you to take out and isa and make money.

I have a point and i rather people actually take notice , instead of saying they have to pay it back and its their money they can do what they like with it

Sorry if i come across all aggressive but students which i'm clearly arguing with on this, think that its their advantage when they go to uni to get loans and live at a higher life of luxury than they can afford at the moment

student loan = bank loan

Theres no difference (except a lower interest rate UNTIL you start paying it back)..

I left Uni 4 years ago.. where i worked my butt off for my degree..

My policy is live and let live... and i think you need to get out more quodus if you lie awake at night fuming over what students spend their money on...
