Air Box Flap

Just wondering peeps. On a gen 7. What is the flap for in the air box just in front of the air filter? Does it improve air flow. What happens if I take it out?

It's called a butterfly valve.

If you take it out it will increase engine noise slightly, some who have taken it out say it makes the car a tiny bit slower low end and can sometimes cause bogging.

Have a search on google for butterfly valve, if you want to know more, no point in me posting to another known forum as it automatically changes the links and spellings back here which is stupid when your trying to help others out. This forum isn't as busy as the other so you don't get many replies here.
