The IQ is expensive once purchased as everything needs to come from Toyota! £100 for 2 headlight bulbs! I tried everywhere and even Toyota hadn't heard of them and had to order them in!

Hmmm, on the other hand its cheap to run; low fuel consumption, low road tax (Netherlands). So I can conclude there's not much aftermarkt parts for the IQ's........ Aren't there any parts shared with the Aygo platform, engine wise and maybe suspension/body wise?

If so, then this is maybe also applicable for Citroen C1, and Peugeot 107 which (?) are Aygos too.

For now I want to concentrate on the EGR problems, they bound to happen in a certain life of the car. If i will buy an IQ, it will be 2nd hand, with some kilometers on it.

It would be a challenge to try to get the original cats changed including EGR piping.

Arent they HR2? What is the difference, what is hid?

HID - high intensity discharge, which produce light which is more visible to the human eye (similar to LED bulbs) than halogen. So the human eye sees more light from these bulbs. The downside is that they need UV filtering to prevent damage to light fittings and possible injury to humans/animals.

HIR2 bulbs - halogen infra red bulbs. The 2 identifies the bulbs as being second generation. HIR2 bulbs are halogen bulbs which use an infra red coating. Only made by Philips and now Osram. Produce more light than standard halogen bulbs. On reflector type headlightshey also need a bulb shield fitted inside the headlight unit to prevent glare problems.

Standard halogen bulbs produce approx 1000 lumens

HIR2 bulbs approx 1750-1800 lumens

Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited bulbs produce approx 2000-2100 lumens.

What happens if you install these hid in your iq?

As well as fitting HID bulbs you will need to fit ballasts. Also, depending which country one resides in, they can cause issues with whatever mandatory tests one's vehicle has to satisfy (eg the MOT). See quote from Dept for Transport in 2006 -

In the Department's view it is not legal to sell or use after market HID lighting kits, for converting conventional Halogen headlamps to HID xenon. If a customer wants to convert his vehicle to xenon HID he must purchase completely new xenon HID headlamps. The reason for this is that the existing lens and reflector are designed around a Halogen filament bulb, working to very precise tolerances. If one places a HID "burner" (bulb) in the headlamp, the beam pattern will not be correct, there will be glare in some places and not enough light in other places within the beam pattern. - Department for Transport (2006)

But these will fit, won't they? They are HIR2.

they will fit - but they are not HIR2 bulbs, they are HID bulbs despite the markings.

To be road legal within the EU, they also need to be 'E-marked', and these don't seem to be.

As I said there are currently only two manufacturers in the world making HIR2 bulbs - Phillips and from earlier this year, Osram.

With regards to the HIR2 bulbs, it is better value to get the iQ spare bulb kit from Toyota. Last time I bought one it was about the same price as a single bulb.

Not sure about that mark. If you can buy 2 (Specialised hir2 bulbs) for £27 and your paying nearly the same price for a kit with one bulb and a bunch of commonly available (Halfords) bulbs for the rest of the car, you are effectively buying a bunch of cheap bulbs for the price of having another HIR2. So mot sure
