Hi all,

I am on the lookout for a second hand IQ, preferably a 1.33 but may also consider a 1.0

Just wondering what are the key things to lookout for? and where are the best places to look im struggling to find one atm within my budget!

Not top fussy about plate tbh, however I heard the 2009 models had a less efficient clutch?. I have looked there but all too far from me

I have the 1.3 version, iQ3 with 6 speed manual gearbox and love it.

Apart from normal things to look for on a car I would check for a service history, Oil changes, air filters etc. If it's been done by a Toyota garage all the better but a local garage will be fine. I service my own car now and that may put some people off but I think I do my servicing to a better standard as I'm not worried about spending all day doing it whereas a garage have time constraints.

If you find a car that is self serviced just see if they have receipts to prove when the work was done.

The pollen filter is rarely checked so that will probably need changing. A new one is £30

Tyres for the iQ3 are 16" and not that common so check the state of them and be prepared for a £350 bill if they all need changing.

Have a look through the wheels too and see what the brake discs are like, heavily scored or stepped discs will need changing at some point but they aren't a bad price really. Rear brake discs can suffer with rust on the inside and outside edges if the car isn't used that often. New discs and pads are the only solution here.

Check the rear headrests are in the car. You can't safely use the rear seats without them and finding replacements is an expensive game.

Check you have two key fobs with the car. They all came with two, usually one coloured to match the car and one plain black one and there should be a plastic key ring with a code on it. That is the key code and is required if you need a replacement key.

Apart from that just check everything works, electric mirrors move, electric mirrors fold, air conditioning gets cold, Etc.

If you do opt for the 1.0, make sure it's had the EGR sorted (see pinned thread) otherwise and out of warranty car that has been self serviced will require a hefty bill to get it done.

I've just bought a 1.33 with sat Nav 13 plate with 4years toyota warranty left for £7000

I personally would stretch the the top end of your budget and try to get one with the remainder of the 5 year toyota warrenty. It that I'm saying you will have any problems but always nice to be covered 😊
