5Th Injector Problem

Hi all,

My auris was smoking really badly for a couple of weeks. Took it to a garage and they unplugged the connector to the 5th injector and said to drive for a couple of days to see if it smoked. The smoke has now completely gone.

Do you think I will need a new injector or something else?

Cheers,

Mike

I think, from my limited experience, it will be something else.

The 5th injector is to inject fuel into the Diesel Particular Filter (DPF), this is done to clean out the DPF by burning off the trapped particles.

The 5th injector only works occasionally, for a few minuets about every 500 miles or so.

The trigger for it to work is when the sensors located at the input and output of the DPF, sense a pressure difference, indicating a blocked filter.

It could be the sensors are not working, or the DPF needs to be replaced.

Be aware that it is not a good idea to run for miles with the injector disconnected, the DPF will not be cleaned.

Your dealer will explain this to you better then me.

Plug it back in and run a cleaner in the fuel! Take the car for an Italian tune up...

I have problems too. I mean, I have a Toyota Verso. 1AD-FTV engine. White smoke when hot. Changed a lot of parts: 4+1 injectors, diesel particulate  filter. Finally, did the same as described here above: Electrically disconnected the fifth injector, and connected the old one (not able to inject). And, yes, its gone !. Then, I connected an oscilloscope, and yes !, the fifth injector is being actuated. Now what?. It can be 3 parts failing:
1. The ECU.
2. The injector drivers.
3. The wire harness.

I found out that on eBay (eBay.de), there is a business in the injector driver. Both new and second hand. Needless to say I suspect the injector driver, but is it possible to get any kind of proof ?. More diagnostics ?. Toyota experience reports ?.

Check this topic, not sure if exact same issue, but culprit was 5th injector.

Anyway topic has a lot of info about using techstream and what to check.
