Replacing Clutch

I run a 2007 Yaris 1.4 D4D T Spirit.

The car has now covered 76000 miles and the clutch pedal is beginning to feel heavy which I understand is indicative of the need for replacement.

I have been advised to use a replacement clutch assembly manufactured by LUK as these are supposed to be good quality.

The price quoted to supply the assembly varies widely from £85 to £ 200 plus VAT.

Anyone know why this is ?

Are there cheap fakes on the market ?

Also anyone care to comment on the quality of LUK clutches ?

if its just started going heavy it will last a lot longer than you think.

you will most likely find the original clutch is probably made by LuK or Aisin and Toyota stamped on it.

check the price on www.eurocarparts.com this will give you a indication roughly what the price bear in mind garages get trade discount.

here is my change (mine has a DMF too)

Hi

I too have a 2007 Yaris D4D now done 44K which has a very heavy and rough clutch since I've had it, so would be interested in any comments and cost. Have heard LUK are a reputable manufacturer.

Not sure if the Yaris diesel has a Dual Mass Flywheel which many recommend should be replaced at same time as the clutch?

Have used the sister company to Eurocarparts: www.carparts4less.co.uk which list the same stock but can work out cheaper.

£575 all-in from an independent Toyota specialist using a genuine clutch kit is the first quote I've had - waiting for the main dealer price :dontgetit:

Try bleeding the clutch before you do anything.

Thanks Madasafish, yes tried bleeding it a few month ago, made no difference unfortunately.

Procedure was:

Pump clutch a few times, hold down pedal while helper undoes bleed nipple on clutch slave to bleed then retighten.

Repeat several times. Funny thing is when the clutch pedal is released after retightning bleed nipple it still stays on the floor and has to be raised manually? Is this normal, on other cars I've done I'm sure pedal springs back up on its own?

Main dealer price for cutch replacement £650 all in.
