Auris Chrome Pack Problems

Having had my new Auris Excel for a few weeks, whilst giving the car a polish, I noticed the Chrome trim on the bottom of both back doors were not flat against the bodywork at the rear of the trim.

This was booked in for warranty replacement.

The workshop manager brought out the defective trims to show me. Both trims are fixed by some very strong double sided tape and fitted at the factory.

Upon inspection, the final 20mm of sticky tape on both trims had not had the backing paper removed from the face that adheres to the paintwork :dontgetit: .

Both trims were replaced by the dealer, who was going to take pictures and send off to Toyota and he suggested that Toyota would probably send a courier to pick them up.

With any manufacturer, these errors do sometimes happen. Why didn't the dealer notice it when the PDI was carried out?

When I had my first new Auris in 2009, after a couple of days I realised the boot light wasn't coming on. Booked the car into the dealership, who found the boot light wasn't connected - took literally a few minutes to rectify.

This summer, we were visiting a friend in Kent. Her neighbour had a new BMW 3-series convertible in black with cream leather interior within the past week. Chatting to the neighbour one day, he told me the car was being returned to the dealer's bodyshop for rectification - the underside of the passenger side door mirror housing and part of the sill hadn't had the lacquer topcoat applied.

I thought after seeing the film of the making of the Auris, all work was checked by the quality control team at each stage.

The checks would have been carried out. Trim that is fixed with 3M type double sided tape can, in time, lift, and hot weather can exacerbate the issue.

We've just had this with the dealer fit side protection mouldings on our Hyundai, but only on the driver's door. The dealer has had to order a complete new set of side protection mouldings, as the design has had a slight change.
